On the 12th of August, Multiethnic Young Leaders hosted the Rangatahi Leadership Opportunities Database (RLOD) Teachers’ Lunch event at the University of Auckland Te Tai Tonga (South Auckland) Campus.
Representatives from Marcellin College, James Cook High School, Wesley College, Onehunga College and Kelston Girls High School were present at the event, where we introduced the RLOD kaupapa, website and Additional Support Services.
Additional Support Services, including financial support and leadership workshops for Year 10 students, help to enable and empower more students and alumni from decile 1-3 high schools in Aotearoa to access youth leadership opportunities and reduce the opportunity divide.
Currently, students and alumni from decile 1-3 high schools in Aotearoa are severely underrepresented in youth leadership. We hope that with the launch of the RLOD Additional Support Services and targeted outreach, more young people from historically and presently underrepresented backgrounds will be able to embark on their leadership journey and reach their full leadership potential in Aotearoa.
The Rangatahi Leadership Opportunities Database (RLOD) is brought to Aotearoa New Zealand by Multiethnic Young Leaders, with funding from the Tindall Foundation. It is Aotearoa New Zealand’s first free, single-source, open-access database that provides crowdsourced information on all leadership opportunities available to young people under 35 in Aotearoa. The kaupapa of the RLOD is to make youth leadership more transparent, fair and equitable for all young people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
